Kevin Feige has pushed back against the idea that Avengers: Secret Wars will completely reboot the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

During an interview with Josh Horowitz for the Happy Sad Confused podcast, the Marvel Studios president was asked whether the upcoming Avengers film would erase the existing MCU and begin again from scratch.

Feige answered no, but said Marvel is looking closely at the comic-book versions of Secret Wars for guidance on where the franchise can go next.

“No. But I look to the comics like I always do, in terms of our storytelling,” Feige said. “And after both the Secret Wars, but particularly the Jonathan Hickman Secret Wars from 10 years ago, there’s a nice roadmap to where we can go.”

Jonathan Hickman’s 2015 Secret Wars storyline brought several Marvel universes together after the multiverse collapsed. Once the event ended, parts of different realities were carried into a newly restored Marvel Universe rather than every storyline being erased.

That approach could allow Marvel Studios to reorganize its connected universe while keeping selected characters, relationships and events from earlier MCU projects.

Feige previously described the studio’s post-Secret Wars direction as more of a reset than a traditional reboot. He also suggested that the MCU could move toward a more unified timeline after the conclusion of the Multiverse Saga.

The distinction means audiences should not necessarily expect Marvel Studios to discard everything established since Iron Man launched the MCU in 2008.

Instead, Secret Wars may give the studio an opportunity to bring characters from different realities together under one continuity. That could be especially important for the Fantastic Four and the X-Men as Marvel builds its next era.

Avengers: Secret Wars will follow Avengers: Doomsday, which brings together characters from the Avengers, Fantastic Four and X-Men franchises against Victor von Doom.

Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to open in theaters on December 18, 2026. Avengers: Secret Wars is currently scheduled for December 17, 2027.
