Marvel Television has canceled Wonder Man after one season, reversing its previously announced plans to continue the Disney+ series.

Marvel officially renewed Wonder Man for Season 2 on March 23, 2026, approximately two months after the complete eight-episode first season arrived on Disney+.

The renewal announcement confirmed that Yahya Abdul-Mateen II would return as Simon Williams alongside Ben Kingsley as Trevor Slattery.

Series co-creators Destin Daniel Cretton and Andrew Guest were also expected to return. Guest was set to continue as showrunner and executive producer, while Cretton was announced as a returning director and executive producer.

Marvel described the project as being in full development when the renewal was revealed.

Those plans have now changed.

According to current reporting, Marvel and Disney+ have decided not to proceed with the second season. The writers connected to the project have reportedly been released to pursue other work.

A full Season 2 writers’ room was not assembled, and production had not begun before the cancellation decision was made.

Marvel and Disney have not publicly provided a detailed explanation for reversing the renewal.

Wonder Man debuted on Disney+ in January 2026 and followed aspiring actor Simon Williams as he attempted to secure the leading role in a new superhero film.

Simon’s journey brought him together with Trevor Slattery, the struggling actor previously seen impersonating the Mandarin in Iron Man 3.

The series approached the Marvel Cinematic Universe from a Hollywood perspective, focusing on auditions, performance, celebrity culture and the entertainment industry rather than following a traditional superhero storyline.

Its first season received strong critical attention, including praise for the chemistry between Abdul-Mateen and Kingsley.

Abdul-Mateen also received an Emmy nomination for his performance as Simon Williams.

Despite the cancellation, the characters introduced or developed through Wonder Man may still appear elsewhere in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Marvel has not announced whether Simon Williams, Trevor Slattery or any supporting characters will return through another film or television project.

The cancellation marks a rapid change in direction after Marvel publicly promoted Wonder Man as one of its returning live-action series.

The official Season 2 announcement remains part of Marvel’s website history, where the company previously confirmed the returning cast and creative team.

For now, Wonder Man ends with its original eight-episode season available on Disney+.
