Tom Holland says he has difficulty imagining anyone other than Robert Downey Jr. and Hugh Jackman playing Iron Man and Wolverine.

During a recent interview, Holland discussed actors who have become closely identified with their most famous characters. He pointed to Downey’s Tony Stark and Jackman’s Logan as rare examples of performances that feel nearly impossible to replace.

“There’s only a few characters in our industry where it’s like, just let them be,” Holland said while discussing the two Marvel roles.

Downey first appeared as Tony Stark in 2008’s Iron Man and became one of the central figures of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. His run as the character concluded with Tony’s death in Avengers: Endgame.

Jackman made his Wolverine debut in 2000’s X-Men and returned to the role across multiple films, including Logan and Deadpool & Wolverine. Jackman has also joked that he intends to continue playing Wolverine for as long as Marvel will allow him.

Holland’s comments reflect how strongly both actors remain associated with their characters, but they do not confirm that Marvel has ruled out future recasts.
