New first-look images of Priyanka Chopra Jonas in S. S. Rajamouli’s upcoming film Varanasi have been released.

The images offer a closer look at Chopra Jonas as Mandakini, a globe-traveling character described as fierce, vulnerable, and central to the film’s story. One image shows her performing in an outdoor sequence surrounded by a wide natural landscape, while another places her in a darker, fire-lit setting.

Varanasi is described as an epic action-adventure spanning thousands of years, multiple continents, and locations including Antarctica, Africa, and the sacred Indian city of Varanasi. Rajamouli’s production recreated parts of Varanasi in Hyderabad, including its temples, ghats, and historic architecture.

The film also stars Mahesh Babu as Rudhra and Prithviraj Sukumaran as the primary antagonist, Kumbha. Chopra Jonas’ Mandakini is positioned between the two characters as the larger story unfolds.

The project marks Chopra Jonas’ return to an Indian theatrical film following 2019’s The Sky Is Pink. She has said that she has spent more than a year working on the production and teased that the role includes major action sequences and extensive location work.

Rajamouli filmed portions of the movie in Kenya’s Maasai Mara, where the production received access to shoot around real wildlife. The filmmaker is returning with his first original feature since the international success of RRR.

Varanasi is currently scheduled to open in theaters worldwide on April 7, 2027.
