Paramount and Activision’s upcoming live-action Call of Duty movie will officially be set in the Modern Warfare universe.

Director Peter Berg revealed the setting during Fanatics Fest, confirming that the film will draw from one of the most recognizable branches of the long-running military shooter franchise. Specific story details, characters, and casting have not yet been announced.

The project is being developed and produced through a partnership between Paramount and Activision. Paramount will also distribute the film worldwide. Both companies have said that the adaptation is intended to preserve the franchise’s military action, storytelling style, and appeal to longtime players while introducing Call of Duty to a broader theatrical audience.

Peter Berg is attached to direct and co-write the movie. Taylor Sheridan is also writing and producing, with both filmmakers emphasizing authenticity, large-scale action, and a more human look at elite military characters.

Modern Warfare first became a major part of the franchise with 2007’s Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. The series later expanded through sequels, reboots, and characters including Captain Price, Ghost, Soap, and members of Task Force 141. It has not yet been confirmed whether those characters will appear in the movie.

The live-action Call of Duty movie is scheduled to open in theaters on June 30, 2028.
