Former Dragon Age executive producer Mark Darrah has expressed doubt that another game in BioWare’s fantasy role-playing series will arrive anytime soon.
Darrah, who spent more than two decades at BioWare and served as executive producer across the Dragon Age franchise, believes the series faces significant obstacles before another project could enter full production.
Speaking about the franchise’s future, Darrah pointed to what he described as Electronic Arts’ complicated process for approving and releasing new games.
His comments do not represent an official announcement from EA or BioWare. Dragon Age has not been formally cancelled, but the publisher has not announced a fifth mainline game or another major project set in Thedas.
The most recent entry, Dragon Age: The Veilguard, launched in October 2024. Electronic Arts later reported that the game reached approximately 1.5 million players during its first months, nearly 50 percent below the company’s expectations.
BioWare has since shifted its development focus toward the next Mass Effect. The studio confirmed in November 2025 that its team was focused exclusively on the science-fiction RPG, with substantial development work still ahead.
That focus means a new Dragon Age would likely need to wait until BioWare has additional staff available, EA approves a separate development plan or another studio is selected to work on the franchise.
Darrah has previously discussed the difficulty of securing approval for Dragon Age projects. He revealed that ideas for remastering the original games were presented to EA several times but did not move forward.
Despite the uncertain outlook, no official decision has been announced declaring the Dragon Age series finished. Darrah’s comments reflect his personal assessment of EA’s approval process and BioWare’s present development priorities.
Until EA or BioWare announces a new project, The Veilguard remains the latest mainline entry in the Dragon Age series.
