Sony Pictures has set a theatrical release date for Skeletons, the upcoming creature-horror film directed by J.T. Mollner.

The movie will open in theaters on June 4, 2027, through Columbia Pictures.

Skeletons follows a young boy who gradually discovers that his parents are hiding a disturbing secret about his mother’s true nature.

Brie Larson leads the cast alongside Kyle Gallner, Willa Fitzgerald, John Goodman, Ione Skye, Daithí Ó hAragáin and Keith Carradine.

The project reunites Gallner and Fitzgerald with Mollner after their work on Strange Darling.

Brian Duffield wrote the original screenplay based on a short story by Philip Fracassi, with Mollner later revising the script.

J.J. Abrams is producing through Bad Robot Productions. The film is also produced by FilmNation Entertainment’s Infrared label and Assemble Media.

Drew Simon, Jon Cohen and Jack Heller are producing alongside Abrams. Larson, Duffield and Fracassi are among the executive producers.

The film has been described as a modern interpretation of the creature-feature genre, with its mystery centered on the relationship between a mother and her son.

Skeletons is scheduled to open against Lionsgate’s John Rambo on June 4, 2027.
