Call of Duty: Black Ops and Black Ops II are reportedly proving to be major commercial successes following their arrival on modern PlayStation consoles.

According to CharlieIntel, citing sources familiar with the sales figures, the two PlayStation ports have sold more than seven million units combined.

Activision has not publicly released an official sales breakdown for either title, so it remains unclear how many copies each game has sold individually.

The ports launched for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 in July, making both classic Black Ops games natively playable on modern PlayStation hardware for the first time.

Each release includes its original Campaign, Multiplayer and Zombies experiences. Iron Galaxy worked with Activision and Treyarch to bring the games to the newer consoles.

CharlieIntel also reported that the decision to create the PlayStation ports came from Activision’s Strategy and Finance team.

That detail suggests the project was approved as a business opportunity based on continued demand for the older games rather than as part of a larger remake or remaster programme.

The ports preserve the original games instead of rebuilding them with modern visuals, redesigned mechanics or cross-platform multiplayer.

Despite their limited upgrades, both releases attracted a large audience. Black Ops and Black Ops II also appeared among the most-played games on PlayStation in the United States shortly after launch.

The reported sales performance demonstrates the continuing popularity of Treyarch’s earlier Black Ops games and the commercial potential of making older Call of Duty releases available on current hardware.

Activision has not announced whether the success will lead to additional classic Call of Duty ports, remasters or rereleases.
