Prime Video’s live-action God of War series has suffered a major production setback following an injury to lead actor Ryan Hurst.
Hurst tore his bicep while performing a stunt during filming in Vancouver. The injury required surgery and forced production on the PlayStation adaptation to pause.
Amazon MGM Studios and Sony Pictures Television have now decided to recast the role of Kratos rather than wait for Hurst to complete his recovery.
Four episodes had reportedly already been filmed, but scenes featuring Kratos will need to be reshot once a replacement actor is selected.
Hurst previously voiced Thor in God of War Ragnarök and had gained approximately 40 pounds of muscle while preparing to portray Kratos in live action.
Callum Vinson remains attached as Atreus. The announced ensemble also includes Mandy Patinkin as Odin, Ed Skrein as Baldur and Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Thor.
Production is currently expected to resume around mid-October. Prime Video has not announced Hurst’s replacement or a release date for the series.
