Christopher Nolan says audiences should not expect his next movie for at least three years following the release of The Odyssey.

During an interview promoting the mythological epic, Nolan was asked whether the wait for his next project could match the three-year gap between Oppenheimer and The Odyssey. The filmmaker responded that it would be “at least” that long.

Nolan explained that the enormous production tested both his own stamina and that of the cast and crew.

The Odyssey was filmed across multiple countries using new IMAX film technology, with Nolan pursuing large practical sequences, real locations, and an ambitious adaptation of Homer’s ancient story.

The director described the difficulty as appropriate for the material, noting that a story as demanding as The Odyssey should also be challenging to bring to the screen.

Nolan has not announced what he will direct next. Based on his current timeline, his next film would not arrive before 2029, although development and release plans could change.

The Odyssey is now playing in theaters.
